To protest the situation of hunger strikers on NAURU an Electronic sit-in has been called for 9am Monday 5th January (GMT +11.00 see GMT Time Converter) at the Australian Immigration Department and the Australian Liberal Party websites via this site, an new alternate site or by download of two html files. Protests can also be made at Australian Government Embassies over the treatment of the asylum seekers on Nauru. Refugee advocates associated with the Nauru Wire site do not support nor condone the virtual sit-in, due to possible legal ramifications in Australia. Read more on Electronic civil disobedience in this book or Stefan Wray's 'essay'.

In a letter to Australian Immigration Authorities four of the refugees on hungerstrike have said they expect to die. Refugee advocates have initiated a campaign to ask for visas and travel to Nauru, although visitors to Nauru are being strictly controlled with specific visa refusals for lawyers, journalists and refugee advocates. Two New Zealand journalists did manage to use a travel loophole to visit Nauru and interview asylum seekers. (Read the latest news and updates for Jan 3.)

html code doesn't work..

dischtl 04.Jan.2004 13:58

The html code of "frameset.html" contained in "freedom.zip" is not working.
Doesn't properly refresh the sites and takes the sites from the browser cache.

lines missing/incorrect are:

meta http-equiv="cache-control" content="no-cache"
META http-equiv="refresh" content ="1;url=frameset.html"

I attached the modified file "frameset.html" please use this instead - it works.
