LATIN AMERICA: MEDIA
Venezuela Launches Latin American TV Network25 Jul 2005 03:52 GMTTelevisora del Sur (Television of the South), or Telesur, began broadcasting from Caracas on July 24, the day South American independence leader Simón Bolívar was born. Telesur was created by the Venezuelan government in association with the governments of Argentina, Cuba and Uruguay to provide a counterweight to corporate channels such as CNN and Univision. The station will draw on material produced by independent mediamakers throughout Latin America and the Caribbean for much of its programming. |

It is too bad the USA keeps trying to interfear and control the whole world. Not enough Americans care to even find out about what our country is doing in the rest of the world. They don't even care what is happening at home. They have blind faith in their leaders. It is the old story power corrups. Perhaps one of these days the people will wake up.
I wish Telesur luck and hope it is a sucess.
A non American television channel!!!

A non American television channel!!!
All though I don't mind many American films I do feel that American promotions have a certain culture to them that is quite dominating of others, culturally insensitive and erosive to many others. The constant portrayal of self obsessed men with guns shooting anyone who they don’t like while the kids look on with their mums at the kitchen sink seems to deny half of even the American population.
Because of this it is good to hear that people from the non-American world have a chance to show their creativity, culture and skills. I no little of Venezuelan culture or people most probably because anything I hear about it is from the British media normally about asylum seekers scrounging of our state. If I ever go to south America then I will tune in and see if this broadcasting is any good, which I hope it will be.
Good luck and I hope that this TV network provides a counter to the normal racist and sexist propaganda of the west.

Typical of the US

Typical of the US government isn't it? Not content with interfering at home, they must then go and interfere with someone else. So who's "antifreedom" then? Last time i looked, if you're pro-freedom - then that means you believe in allowing people ( guess what?!) Freedom!

hope it turns into a virus

i too have been catapulted with the mainstream american media that has nothing to do but to sell ideologies and schemes in a colorful manner ...
i sure wish this tv would be able to flourish as quickly as possible (hail to Chavez, President of Vensuela) .. and i sure hope there would be more tvs of this sort ,,, and we need them in English as well .. as soon as possible ..
keep up the good work

BBT is exactly what is needed to break free of the diaphanous shackles of corporate programming.
