The circle of police, military and paramilitaries closes over Oaxaca

Currently the people of Oaxaca organized in the Peoples Poplular Asembly of Oaxaca (APPO) are under attack by the mexican federal government. More than 10 thousand milatary sweep the streats of Oaxaca. Headed by water tanks follows by lines of 3,500 riot cops with batons and behind them 3,000 military police with automatic rifles; 5,000 army troups await in the outskirts of the city while paramilitaries continue attacking. There are reports of military tanks a few meters from the pacific protests and urban trucks without logo of the Federal Bureau of Inviestigations of Mexico which remain in the International Airport of Mexico, now converted into military base. Since the morning there are reports of one death - but nothing confirmed.

The air space has been closed for the last two days to comercial and civil flights, only permiting the entry of federal and military agents. Since the morning the army has closed allo roads in and out of oaxaca.

In the morning Radio Universidad, radio of the APPO and pratically the only hole in the media blackout surrounding Oaxaca, suffered yet another atack by paramilitaries. Its signal is intermitant in the center of the city, as if there were interferance. Report that the signal has been blocked, while a clandestine governmental radio of governor Ulises Ruiz Ortiz, of Oaxaca, identifing itself on air as "radio ciudadana", proclais that indymedia is a terrorist organization.

The APPO issue the call for a mega-march at 2pm in Oaxaca and at 4pm in Mexico City. Seperate calls for mobilizations in Mexico and around the world have been pronounced by the APPO, the omisión sexta e intergalatica of the EZlN and free and independent media of Mexico.

A human catostraphe is feared in the wake of the enourmous violations human rights by the federal gobernment in Atenco the 3rd and 4th of may and in Oaxaca itself the 14th of june, during the eviction of the teachers union protesting for the imporvement in the local education sistem. This aggresion of the mexican state today against the pacific and desarmed people of Oaxaca is one of the largest remembered in the history of México and Latinoamérica.

The Oaxacan people have been held hostage by the APPO!!!!

Gringo Istmeño 30.Oct.2006 19:22

Most oaxacan people are NOT in favor of the APPO`s violent actions!!! Don`t believe INDY MEDIA!!! To say they are peaceful protests is a LIE!!! I live here- I know the deal- the protestors have used violence and fear tactics to take control of the city. Of course the Feds came in- to save the people and the city from this minority group of anarchists and rebels. It`s not even a teacher-protest anymore- it`s not about the teachers. Indy Media lies, and promotes a violent and lawless organization! hey haven`t mentioned ONCE the people the APPO has killed- both sides have lost lives, and the citizens of Oaxaca want their beautiful city back, even though now it is ruined and made ugly by those APPO freaks.

There is no military in oaxaca-it`s federal police (PFP)

More lies spewed by Indy media. I found this website Saturday because I wanted to see what kind of things they had to say about Brad`s death. I couldn`t believe all the repeated pictures of his dying body and bullet wound- Is that how show respect to your journalists??? I`m sure Brad`s family and REAL friends appreciated those pictures a lot. This website makes me sick- it`s the biggest piece of hypocritical self-serving lying trash I`ve ever witnessed.

Hmmmm... Gringo?

I'm not sure that I can prove what you say is not true (I am not in Oaxaca), but the images of large numbers of common women, men and children that I have seen from both independent media and commercial media sources would lead me to believe that this is more than a fringe group of anarchists and radicals bent on causing chaos and destruction. Indymedia is not the only news source that is characterizing the situation as repressive on the part of the Mexican government, I have seen similar reports on Democracy NOW, not to mention plenty of media sources that are not as overtly radical as Indymedia. Also, you are right, it is not just a teachers’ movement any more. When the federal government overstepped it's bounds in its attempts to end their strike, others in the community came to their aid. And should they not? The repression of teachers through violent force is just one manifestation of the system of violent control that all those involved are sick of submitting to unquestioningly. Brad was in Oaxaca as well... you know no better than him, or any of the others documenting the situation, what is really transpiring.

OMG ANARCHISTS ARE EVERWHERES OH NOES!

sorry with all the pictures of children and womyn in the streets and the pictures of non-violent peaceful protest I find it hard that to believe they are all "terrorists." I think Chris it the only one of the last three commenters without some kind of an agenda to push here.
