On the 21st of May a group of students occupied the main hall of the Faculty of arts (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) with an intention of practicing autonomy and freedom of thought. We symbolically opened the Autonomous Tribune for discussion and debated the study problems, higher education reforms, privatization of the university and the question of autonomy. With this initiative we have joined the students in Europe and the World, who have already started the fight against neoliberal reforms of educational system and the submission of all aspects of social life to the logic of market economy.

DECLARATION OF THE AUTONOMOUS TRIBUNE FOR THE AUTONOMY OF THE UNIVERSITY

On the 21st of May a group of students occupied the main hall of the Faculty of arts (University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) with an intention of practicing autonomy and freedom of thought. We symbolically opened the Autonomous Tribune for discussion and debated the study problems, higher education reforms, privatization of the university and the question of autonomy. With this initiative we have joined the students in Europe and the World, who have already started the fight against neoliberal reforms of educational system and the submission of all aspects of social life to the logic of market economy.

The Autonomous Tribune has come to the following conclusions:

1. We are objecting to the new draft of a bill regarding higher education. Not only was the bill written without involvement of those who should be involved in the first place, that is students and workers of the university, but also its content is a total failure.

2. We demand that any future legal arrangements of this field are based on the next premises:

The University is autonomous!
The University is not a corporation!
Study is free and generally available to everyone!

Knowledge must not be a matter of privatization and the capitalist profit-oriented logic! Knowledge should be a commodity available to everyone, serving the whole society and not merely the interests of capital.
University is in the hands of the students and not in the hands of the rulers and the capital.
Educational process must be collective, containing dialogue and is to be based on the interest and the needs of the future university graduates. It must encourage solidarity, spontaneity, imagination, critique and reflection.
All programs that encourage militarization and subject the study to the market logic must be immediately removed from the University.

3. Instead of money being spent for destructive activities, it should be intended for social projects. So to begin with, we demand that both Slovenian soldiers withdraw from Iraq and the money spent on such actions is given to the socially handicapped families.

We salute all, who have already publicly defended the existing social rights and we reject any attempts of further reduction of rights. Once again we are appealing to all individuals, formal and informal student organizations, clubs, initiatives, unions, movements and workers in higher education to self-organize and publicly defend basic and universal rights.

Declaración de
TRIBUNA AUTÓNOMA EN DEFENSA DE LA AUTONOMÍA DE LA UNIVERSIDAD

Estudiantes hemos ocupado, con el objetivo de ejercer la autonomía y libertad de pensamiento, el aula de la Facultad de Filosofía en Ljubljana el 21.5.2007. Establecemos una Tribuna autónoma, donde discutimos sobre la problemática de los estudios, la reforma de la organización escolar universitaria, la privatización de la universidad y sobre la cuestión de la autonomía. Con este acto nos unimos a la lucha de estudiantes en Europa y en el mundo, que ya resistieron a las reformas neoliberales de la organización escolar universitaria y a la subordinación de todos los aspectos de la vida social a la lógica del mercado libre.

En la tribuna hemos llegado a las siguientes conclusiones:

1. La Tribuna autónoma de estudiantes rechaza en su totalidad el proyecto de Ley sobre la organización escolar universitaria y los proyectos de investigación y desarrollo. No sólo porque se formó sin la cooperación de los estudiantes, trabajadoras y trabajadores en la universidad, sino también porque es incorrecto en contenido.

2. Exigimos que en adelante la regulación legal de esta esféra se base en los siguientes puntos:

¡La universidad es autónoma!
¡La universidad no es una empresa!
¡El estudio es gratuito para todos y universal!
¡El conocimiento no debe ser objeto de la privatización y de la lógica del beneficio! El conocimiento está al servicio de toda la sociedad y no de los intereses capitalistas.
¡La universidad está en las manos de los estudiantes y no en las manos de los déspotas y del capital!
La educación debe ser colectiva, promover el diálogo y tiene que responder exclusivamente a los intereses y las necesidades de los futuros graduados. También tiene que estimular la solidaridad, la espontaneidad, la imaginación, la crítica y la reflexión.
De las universidades deben ser retirados inmediatamente todos los programas que favorecen la militarización y subordinan el estudio a las reglas del mercado.

3. Los medios que se destinan para las actividades que son nocivas para la sociedad, deben ser destinados para proyectos sociales. Principalmente exigimos que se retiren los dos soldados del ejército esloveno en Irak. Ese dinero se debe destinar para las familias pobres.

Saludamos a todos aquellos que ya defienden en público los derechos sociales existentes y rechazamos todas las tentativas de reducción de estos derechos. Del mismo modo llamamos a todos los individuos, organizaciones estudiantiles formales y informales, clubes y iniciativas, sindicatos, trabajadoras y trabajadores de la organización escolar universitaria y de los diferentes movimientos, que se auto organicen y defiendan en público los derechos fundamentales y universales.

¡EL ESTUDIO ES UN DERECHO!
¡SOBRE LOS DERECHOS NO NEGOCIAMOS!
¡LOS DERECHOS SON OBTENIDOS, NO CONCEDIDOS!
