my house in (Nablus - Palestine) is occupied by Israeli soldiers (again) for the fifth time in past three years; for 24 hours i have no news from my family who are locked inside the house; my mother who is 55 years old and brother of 23 years old ; how should i feel?! and what shall i say.. occupation gives - on a daily bases- enlightenment to understand Israeli- Palestinian conflict out of my house story and everyday stories..
setting in Brussels gathering pieces of news is not easy, impossible puzzle to solve: where Israeli "military" operation reached? how long will IOF would stay in the city? why was it my house to be occupied this time?
bottom line: its hard to be away from home.
my Canadian friend is asking : what do Israeli soldiers want, are they after your mom's cookies?
i hear from friends back home: why are you worried? its (a'adi) ! well, a'adi in Arabic is normal; while there is nothing normal in the equation. to have military base in my living room is NOT normal, to have soldiers reading my diaries is NOT normal, terrorizing children is NOT at all normal.
yet sad enough, it happened so many times that now we Palestinians consider it to be normal !
this normalization process Israel exercised over the past 60 years, starting from using Israeli currency, to controlling boarders, to teaching in Palestinian schools what Israelis want us to learn all the way to current day situation of passing 6 checkpoints in less than 40 minutes drive, and occupying my house that has nothing to do with the conflict. why my house, i wonder.. ?! is it the bathroom window that looks suspecious; could this window turn out to be a terrorist window?! i try to make fun of the situation - although am sick worried - yet its better to laugh than to cry.
bottom line: occupation normalized my reactions, why not to cry ?!?!
i call some Israeli officials to "bother" them as my colleague says, i know my calls wont go anywhere but at least they need to know that it is NOT normal nor OK to carry a military operation in civilians city!
bottom line: occupation is NOT normal !
daily incursions aims not only for occupation normalization but further to narrow Palestinians dreams by all means.. some argue by: its for "security reasons", well, this excuse is laughable, even Israeli officials themselves smile internally (ashamed) when they say it.
one of my musician friends who been to jail told me once: i was never against the occupation not out of submission but out of fighting inside my imagination with my piano keys, Israeli soldiers forced me to be an activist by harassing my kids daily on their way to school, by arresting me for no charge (administrative arrest). in jail, music was not allowed for security reasons, that was my biggest torture.
here you can extract bottom line: you are "forced" to rebel, and security reasons is pure rubbish.
i know how it feels, i have been there.. your house is occupied, you are locked in one room with no communication with the outside world what so ever, if you have an emergency or medical needs then its too bad for you, you ask permit to use the bathroom of your own house, you go through the different colors of humiliation and then you have to smile and thank soldiers for the kind visit !
bottom line: am so angry !!!
i do not feel like giving political speeches, i just want to pray that my family and all families of Nablus are ok, my words wont heal my pain tonight, however, it would help me to think loud and clear of my bottom line:
if this is Annapolis greeting to Nablus of : happy 2008, am sorry to say: we rather to have a decent unhappy year than this start.
