Concluye Cumbre con violenta represión en Guadalajara
CMI Mexico 29 May 2004 23:56 GMTConcluyó la III Cumbre de Jefes de Estado y de Gobierno de America Latina, el Caribe y la Unión Europea (III ALCUE) con una condena suave e indirecta a la tortura militar estadounidense en Irak, acuerdos comerciales sin aval popular, violencia contra manifestantes al finalizar la marcha general y alrededor de 100 detenidos y desaparecidos además de 30 heridos durante la noche de ayer que transcurrió en un ambiente tenso. Según los últimos informes durante la madrugada fueron liberados varios manifestantes sin embargo aún quedan detenidos cerca de 70. En una conferencia de prensa realizada al medio día de hoy en Gudalajara se han confirmado los rumores de tortura y vejaciones a los detenidos, descripciones tales como que a la gente la fueron molestando con golpes en el camino, insultándolos, etc. Al llegar a los separos a los hombres los separaron de la mujeres, a ellas las desvistieron totalmente, las obligaban a colocarse en posiciones extrañas, y abrían y cerraban la puerta a cada rato. A ellos los mantuvieron más de tres horas en el suelo con los brazos sobre la nuca, los pateaban, y saltaban sobre ellos. Y se escuchó dentro que a los extranjeros los quieren liberar lo mas pronto posible para no tener ningún problema con las embajadas. 
Esto fue denunciado por una de las detenidas, habitante de Guadalajara, que se encontraba en una parada de autobús después de participar en la movilización y sus padres fueron por ella, además de un reportero de alguna organización. Los habitantes de Guadalajara al parecer algunos han sido liberados desde las tres de la mañana, según datos oficiales, y de la gente que sigue desaparecida aun no sabemos nada, lo que da un celaje de desquite y odio desde la autoridad para cualquiera de nosotros.
Las ONGs y los Sindicatos se deslindaron de todo.
De los heridos se sabe que nueve ya salieron del hospital, y dos tienen estallamiento de vísceras y lesiones craneales.
En las negociaciones, las autoridades -que aún no entregan la lista de detenidos- piden a los manifestantes desalojar inmediatamente la ciudad, no realizar más movilizaciones y el pago de todos los daños a bancos y comercios.
Urge difundir esta información y realizar movilizaciones para exigir la liberación de los detenidos, de los cuales se rumora que a entre 9 y 15 se les fincarán responsabilidades penales graves. Desde el Centro de Medios Independientes (CMI Guadalajara) se ha lanzado un comunicado en diferentes medios locales, nacionales e internacionales para hacer presión y acelerar la resolución de las detenciones. YES, we are Praying for you! Postive thinking goes around the World - I am convinced of that because it worked in my situation!!! But the situtation that is happening NOW about the violence the corporations cause and the "police" will just simply NOT go away for sometime!! That is WHY we HAVE to plan, with Concrete Solid ideas, what we are going to do in the near future like in about 6 months to two years from now - about escaping if we are "caught" etc. We have to get together more so that if a few of our brothers are being persecuted in one place we can go help them somehow!! I cannot openly say what to do, but I'm sure that a lot of you can come up with a few Really Good ideas that will work to help most people in these situtions. When I have sorted out my things that I need to do to help others, I will get in contact with a few people and they can pass things along.
Please try and do what you can to escape this oppression at any given time. I wish I was there to help but I am too far away to help you. Someone I hope is looking into the matter now. I can tell you right now that we better try now to find more ways to communicate(there is tons of ways), because of the Italian "government" who is trying to take the freedom of the people away, from using the Internet for communication. What IF your "gov." did that to you and the rest of the country? I Have an Idea that might work. Theres Almost Always a Counter to bad intrusive ways. I will in due time tell people about it. Theres also another Fantastic way to communicate that Doesn't need electronics. Wait till you hear about it!!

Extreme police repression breaks out at the ALCUE trade summit in Guadalajara, Mexico, where Latin American and Caribbean heads of state are negotiating the terms of the sale of their countries' resources and labor to the European Union behind closed doors. Global justice activists demanding public participation and democratic debate over development polices, along with bystanders, were brutally beaten, gassed, and arrested. The majority of those detained were picked up in the street in the hours later as they attempted to retreat to safety. As they have refused to release the names, charges and
locations of the arrestees, we consider them to have been "disappeared" by the authorities. In negotiations, police have proposed to ransom all but 9 of the disappeared in exchange for payment for property damage.
CALL TO ACTION:
In Guadalajara, Mexico, violent repression and torture is occurring during protests of the meeting of Latin America and the Caribbean and the European Union May 26-29th. Activists are protesting the meetings of an exclusive group of heads of state who do not represent needs of their communities, who are signing agreements that will increase poverty and exploit resources and labor.
Police harassment and brutality has been rampant during the protests. On May 27, after a camp where out-of-town protesters were staying, was surrounded by police and no one was allowed to enter or exit for five hours. The following day, Friday, May 28th, serious confrontation broke out during the main march of the conference. The police unnecessarily attacked protesters with tear gas, pepper spray and physical aggression. After standing their ground for over an hour, protesters were forced to flee the area. The majority of arrests were made after the confrontation had ended, as protesters attempted to reach a safe place.
Over 100 activists and bystanders have disappeared. Protesters are being held in 5 different jails and 2 different hospitals and the authorities have refused to release their names . Witnesses in the jails have reported torture inside the jail. Women have been forced to strip naked, and men have been brutally beaten while handcuffed on the ground. Nine of the people being held are foreigners, one of them severely injured. Her physical condition is unknown and no visitors, including lawyers, have been allowed to visit any detainees.
Authorities have claimed that they will release most prisoners on two conditions: out-of-town protesters must leave immediately, and all damaged property must be paid for. The current situation at 9:00 pm, Saturday night: ten people have been let out, a list of names has finally been released, 43 of which will remain in jail on charges, and eight foreigners are about to be deported.

Alrededor de 95 personas fueron detenidas el viernes en la manifestacion que se realizao en guadalajara, Mexico para protestar por la Cumbre que realizaban los jefes de Estado de Europa, America Latina y Caribe. Hoy lunes 31 de mayo 4 de ellas/os han ingresado en el Penal Puente Grande de Guadalajara y posiblemente hoy ingresen unas 5 mas, pero no es seguro, ya que al mediodia de hoy hora mejicana caduca el plazo de 72 horas legal que la policia tiene para decidir la situacion de los/as DETENIDOS/AS. Como viene pasando en estas protestas el dispositivo policial era brutal y la ciudad ya estaba cerrada, sobretodo el centro, unos dias antes. 33 personas fueron liberadas la madrugada del viernes, la mayoria de Guadalajara, 10 mas el sabado por la tarde y 8 extranjeros, entre ellos/as 2 catalanes 1 vasco y una chica de Madrid o almenos vive en Madrid, estos estan en el Instituto Nacional de Migracion de Iztapalapa en el D.F. Salieron en autocar el sabado a la noche hacia este centro y alli decidiran sobre su situacion, lo mas probable es que acepten la deportacion, pero no han podido hablar con los abogados. Ninguno/a de los 95 detenidos/as ni aun hoy lunes, ninguno/a de los/as 44 que restan detenidas/os ha podido hablar con sus abogados/as. Se les ha torturado, maltratado fisica y psicologicamente, se habla de posibles VIOLACIONES a algunos HOMBRES y tocamientos a mujeres, no han tenido asistencia medica ni jurica, se les ha obligado a firmar declaraciones bajo amenazas. Es un proceso lleno de irregularidades i donde no se estan cumpliendo los derechos basicos ni humanitarios, cuando no hay pruebas contra la mayoria de los/las detenidos/as. Desde las organizaciones de Guadalajara se convoca internacionalmente para el proximo Viernes 4 de junio, para realizar acciones delante de las embajadas o consulados mexicanos para pedir la libertad de los/las detenidos/as. El gobernador del estado de Jalisco, Francisco Ramirez Acuña ha declarado:'A los que sean puestos en libertad y no sean vecinos del estado, se les exigira que abandonen de inmediato el estado de Jalisco' esta declaracion viola el derecho a la libertyad de transito que ampara el art. 11 de la Constitucion mexicana.
