On the 7th of March 2005 Mikhail Marinich named “a prisoner of conscience” by Amnesty International had a stroke in a jail cell in Vitebsk, Belarus.
Authorities of Orshanska jail where Mr. Marinich is kept did not notified his relatives or anyone else about his stroke and kept it a secret for 3 days. Marinich's left side is paralyzed, and yet he was not hospitalized and didn’t receive any medical attention or medication.
NGO "PORA!" is very concerned that Marinich's life is in danger. Such treatment of Mr. Marinich does not only violate human rights, but also constitutes brutal cruelty and raises concerns about deliberate harm to the political prisoner’s health.
NGO “PORA!” demands that Belarus government and President Lukashenko
immediately hospitalize Michail Marinich and provide all necessary medication, stop cruel treatment of prisoners, and free Michail Marinich, who was imprisoned only because of his political stance.
