VBS Meets Arnaud de Borchgrave - A seven part discussion about the world of today Over here at VBS.tv we are all political junkies to some degree. Some are active and some just enjoy the Shakespearean soap opera aspect of it. However, since none of us are joining any think tanks in the near future we are dependent on the experts like everyone else. Experts though seem to be a dime a dozen these days and at VBS we feel its our duty to cut through the clutter to and find the experts who actually know what they are talking about. That's why we wanted to meet Arnaud de Borchgrave. He is pretty much our version of a journalistic hero and a guy we could listen to endlessly at the dinner table. Born in Belgium to a Belgian count, de Borchgrave was educated in Belgium, Britain and the United States. He served the British Royal Navy from 1942 to 1946, volunteering at the age of 15. In 1947, he was appointed Brussels bureau chief for United Press International, and three years later he was the Newsweek bureau chief in Paris and then chief correspondent. In 1953 he became a senior editor for the magazine. The Editor-in-Chief of Newsweek once said that "De Borchgrave has played a role in world affairs known to no other journalist. He has been able to tap the thinking of numerous world leaders... despite his intimacy with major policymakers, he has never aligned himself with either side of a dispute... Arnaud de Borchgrave has made significant contributions to world peace and understanding."
