A mass demo against the South Coast city's weapons factory, EDO-MBM/ITT, is being staged and after the success of the last one, cops are thought to be planning a hardline approach. About 100 people attended a Rally on the steps of the Capital building in Olympia Washington today, October 6, 2008, urging Governor Chris Gregoire to mount a legal challenge to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's (FERC) approval of the Bradwood Liquefied Natural Gas terminal. The Rally was moderated by Dan Serres of Columbia Riverkeeper, who introduced a wide variety of speakers. Speakers included, from Washington State government, Rep. Dean Takko from Southern Oregon and Jay Manning, Director of Washington Department of Ecology. From Washington State citizen organizations concerned about the detrimental effects of the proposal were Ruby Wolf of the Cascade chapter of the Sierra Club, George Exum of Wahkiakum Friends of the Columbia River, Gerald Pollet, Seattle City Light Study Group and Gail, a forest land owner. Y qu� decir de su inquietud cuando lleg� a Supelaur y vio que tambi�n estaban ya en Zaratamo. Se retir� a su casa de Atxorrotx, y con tristeza asisti� al comienzo del desbroce en Eskoriatza y pronto en Aramaio. Se acord� de su tierra del Goierri, lleg� a Murumendi y se top� con que las m�quinas ya rascaban y ara�aban en Ordizia e Itsasondo. Unlike a trial jury, which decides whether a suspect is guilty, a grand jury merely decides whether there's probable cause to prosecute a suspect on felony charges. The goal was to create a filter to catch unjustified felony cases and stop them at an early stage, so that the suspect wouldn't be wrongfully prosecuted (and have to spend unnecessary time in jail and unnecessary money on lawyers). In Auckland and Hamilton low-paid workers at McDonald's and the Farmers department store are striking and protesting for better pay and working conditions. The strikes started on September 19th with workers working out of Otara McDonald's, to be accompanied on the picket line by a giant inflatable rat. October 3 saw staff at six different McDonald's walk out, five in Auckland and one in Hamilton. The striking workers at the Auckland Airport McDonald's travelled into the city to support strikers at two other stores, while when the Hamilton strikers left their store, only managers specially brought the 130km down from Auckland were left to run the store. During these strikes, which lasted for several hours or longer, many customers left without food rather than cross the picket lines.
