Pre-convention conversation

A short hypothetical conversation prior to the Democratic National Convention.
Pre-convention Conversation:
John Kerry (JK)
John Edwards (JE)
Dennis Kucinich (DK)
DK:
Gosh, fellas, thanks for letting me speak at your
convention.
JK:
No hard feelings, Dennis, although you were a
little rough on me when campaigning.
JE:
Yea, Dennis buddy, let's show the country that all
candidates stand solidly behind our leader. You are
going to be tactful, right, Dennis?
DK:
Well John, you were just a youngster when our leader
so bravely asked, "How do you ask a man to be the
last man to die for a mistake?"
JK:
Hold on! Dennis, Vietnam is long past. Let's not go
digging up the past. We must look ahead. No negatives,
buddy. We want to project a positive image.
DK:
I thought I might ask something like, "How do you ask
a man to be the last man to die for a pack of lies?"
JE:
Oh my God, Dennis! John and I are together on this one.
Absolutely NO NEGATIVES! Let's move forward, not start
controversy. We must unite this great country, not
divide it.
DK:
OK, well then, what if I just say a word or two about
working together for Peace on Earth?
JK:
Dennis, I'm afraid that if you insist on being radical,
John and I will have to reconsider letting you speak at
all. Any talk of troop withdrawals or being soft on our
enemies just won't be tolerated. That Peace line smacks
too much of the commies and left-wing nuts. As I said,
we've got to project an image of party solidarity.
JE:
I agree with John wholeheartedly. Dennis, just avoid that
Peace stuff and let's stand together if we expect to win
the Presidency. Do you want to speak at our convention,
or don't you?
DK:
OK, OK, guys. I get the idea. Of course, I want to speak.
I promise to avoid controversial topics. How about if I
just say a word or two about human dignity, honesty, our
people's sense of decency and fair-play and our disgust
with human rights violations, breach of Geneva Convention
agreements, frivolous imprisonments and inhumane torture
of prisoners in our care?
JK & JE (in unison)
NO!!
JE:
Dennis, listen to John. He is going to be our boss.
JK:
Dammit, Dennis! Why do you find it so hard to get the
message? I'm giving you one last chance. Now, if you want
to speak, let's hear how you intend to handle yourself.
I warn you, any more treacherous talk or any more pinko
talk about Peace and you will be sidelined and have to
hang out with Dean, Nader and the rest of the losers.
DK:
Well, if anything, I'm a practical politician. Listen
carefully. Here is what I will say. See if you like it.
I'm gonna say things like: "It's time we got this great
country moving again" and, "Let's re-establish faith in
this great country's leadership", and "The 21st Century
will usher in a new birth of freedom, both on our continent
and throughout the world." How about this one? "The
Kerry-Edwards team will bring unprecedented prosperity to
citizens and workers both at home and worldwide!"
JK:
Great, Dennis, that's got a good ring to it!
JE:
Good going, Dennis old buddy. With guys like you aboard
we're gonna have it made in November. I like your style.
Now let's wrap it up, John.
JK:
Teresa is going to be thrilled. Thanks, Dennis, I knew you
had it in you. Come on, fellas, let's get a drink - oops,
sorry, Dennis, how about a lemonade?
