A struggle for democracy in Highland Park

In the continuing saga of loss of representation and privatization of city resources, the Highland Park City Council last night passed a resolution reiterating its dissatisfaction with a proposed contract with the Rothschild Wright Group (RWG) to run the cities water system.

In a letter made available to the council and shared with the citizens of Highland Park attending the meeting, the Engler appointed Financial Manager Ramona Pearson seems to be still negotiating the contract after the council voted against it in a session on May 24th. The letter, dated July 1, 2004, makes substantive changes to the contract without any input from the council.
