Global Warming Awareness Day is February 16th

Next Wednesday marks the day the world's first global warming treaty becomes effective, but without having the benefit of participation by the U.S., is the treaty doomed to failure? Let's hope not. The international treaty on global climate change - the Kyoto Protocol - will take effect on February 16, 2005, with 140 of the world's nations participating. The treaty establishes the first binding international commitment by nations to limit their individual and collective greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, believed by the preponderance of the world's scientists to be causing global warming, using an international emissions trading system to promote cost-effective GHG emission reductions.
