Lebanon's conflict deepened Sunday when Hezboallah put out a call for massive street demonstrations Tuesday to protest the departure of Syrian troops from the country. Hezbollah led the armed resistance that forced Israel to end its occupation of south Lebanon in 2000. Though it is now a legally recognized political party in Lebanon with a 12-seat bloc in parliment, Hezbollah and its satellite television channel have been designated terrorist organizations by the United States. New York City independent journalist and peace activist Trish Schuh traveled to Lebanon in the summer of 2002 and again last month and spoke with leaders of this controversial resistance movement.
