Solstice for Peace and Change
20 Jun 2005 01:03 GMT
Come June 21 at 6:30 PM for an evening at Alba Park in Medford with Citizens for Peace and Justice. Plan for change and work to put a stop to U.S. war-based foreign policy.
It is the Summer Solstice, the shortest night, and the sun has reached its zenith. It is a time of healing magic. The Oak King who has reigned since the darkest night of winter rises from his throne and the Holly King takes over the reign of the forest. In old England on this night, bonfires were lit at sundown to ward off evil spirits. Lighting the bonfires was known as "setting the watch" and those who traveled from one fire to another were "marching the watch".
