O22: NATIONAL DAY AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY IN AZ

AZ orgs unite community to take action against police brutality October 22nd

Phoenix Copwatch, Phoenix Anarchist Coalition, and Tucson's Migra-Patrol-Copwatch and Coalición de Derechos Humanos are hosting a day of events in their respective communities to highlight national police abuses and the need for active independent, community-based organizations in our society. Police abuses like the death of Mario Madrigal Jr. at the hands of the Mesa PD, and the case against Louie Arriaga Jr. show the need for community involvement. In recognition of National Day Against Police Brutality, a march and rally, "Know Your Rights" forum, and benefit show will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2005 in Phoenix. In Tucson Migra-Patrol-Copwatch and Coalicion de Derechos Humanos will host an October 22 Festival at the Armory Park Ballroom.

People will converge at Cesar Chavez Memorial - 3rd Ave. and Jefferson St. in downtown Phoenix - to take to the streets and march at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. The events at The Armory Park Ballroom, in Tucson, will begin at 2 p.m. and end at 6. Following the march in Phoenix there will be a Know Your Rights forum at the Counter-culture Café, 2330 E. McDowell Rd. A benefit show for Phoenix Copwatch and political prisoners Laro Nicol and Richard Williams will then begin at 8 p.m., at the same location. The Armory Park Ballroom in Tucson is located at 220 S. 5th Ave.
