A Film night to Mark 40 years of Occupation A Film night to Mark 40 years of Occupation, 5th March @ Cube Cinema This year Bristol Indymedia Film Night will be taking a deeper look at the history and stories behind the headlines of the middle east. The region is rarely off the headlines with bombings, shootings and killing and yet has around 60% of the worlds oil supply.Monday March 5th 2007 @ Cube Cinema. Doors open 7.30pm, film starts at 8pm. £3/4 though nobody turned away for lack of funds. A special film night on Monday 5th March will be the first of a series of events in Bristol to mark the 40-year occupation of Palestine. 2007 marks the 40-year anniversary of the Six Day War, in which the Israeli army took military control of the Gaza Strip and West Bank, including East Jerusalem...The evening will include eyewitness accounts of recent visitors to Palestine together with short films made by UK peace workers. The main film will be THE IRON WALL..a historical summary of the 1948 Nakba followed by the occupation in 1967. It then follows the timeline of the illegal settlements in Palestine and the launch of the latest project by Israel to protect them - the building of the "Separation Wall". It documents the geography of the Wall together with its devastating effects on agriculture, education, health, travel, and the viability of the Palestinian state. Containing shocking & moving footage, this film made in Palestine and released in 2006, is the most comprehensive and up-to-date film explaining the injustice of Palestine. Money raised from the evening will go to peace and human-rights monitoring projects in Palestine. Full article.
