Marine Recruiters to Be Welcome in Berkeley?

Faced with threats from Republican lawmakers, the Berkeley City Council is meeting tonight to discuss changing its stand on military recruiters. Activists are holding a vigil from Monday, February 11th at 7pm until Tuesday at 7pm, when the council meets. Several pro-war groups are organizing members to confront protesters all day Tuesday. On Jan. 29th, the Berkeley City Council voted 6 to 3 that the U.S. Marine Recruiting Station on Shattuck Ave. "is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders."
