Troy Davis Murdered, Innocence No Bar To Execution

NYC, 22.09.2011 14:22

"The struggle for justice doesn't end with me. This struggle is for all the Troy Davises who came before me and all the ones who will come after me. I'm in good spirits and I'm prayerful and at peace. But I will not stop fighting until I've taken my last breath." Troy Davis

Workers Defense Project Protests E-Verify!

United States, 22.09.2011 14:10

On Wednesday, September 14th Workers Defense Project and allies gathered outside U.S. Representative Lamar Smith's office in Austin, TX to protest his proposed E-Verify Law/Legal Workforce Acy bill. The E-Verify Law/Legal Workforce Act would require all employers to verify the documentation status of potential employees electronically as a pre-requisite for work. This would be devastating to immigrant communities around the US and would wind up pushing those who already make low wages further into poverty and into the underground economy, working for employers who care even less about labor and human rights than they already do. Congressman Lamar Smith, who has an office in Austin, is one of the supporters of E-Verify. It is important for us to show Lamar Smith that the residents of Austin are opposed to this unjust and discriminatory law. Join us outside of Lamar Smith's office here in Austin to demand justice for immigrants!

Protest organized by Workers Defense Project.

OCCUPY WALL STREET! OCCUPY YOUR HEART!

NYC, 22.09.2011 02:29

“Banks can make or break an economy or country. The people want their bailout,” said a local “rank and file” labor organizer named Frank Olsen. “We are hoping more unions, students, civilians, citizens will dare to come down to support, gather and stand together,” he said. “United we stand, divided we die.”... read more from Pryia Reddy

Troy Davis Wins a Reprieve for How Long?

DC, 22.09.2011 02:03

Tonight, Amnesty Int'l called a death watch vigil across from the Convention Center, where the Black Congressional Caucus was meeting. A few minutes after 7pm, the crowd was huddled around the radio broadcasting Democracy Now, while others monitored their blackberries. A big cheer went up when it was announced that 5 Supreme Court justices said they wanted to review the case, and for now has delayed the execution. It is unclear how long this reprieve will last. Some came to the vigil from the White House, where 13 Howard students had been arrested during their protest to stop the execution.

From Up Against the Wall to Up in Their Faces - STOP "STOP & FRISK"

NYC, 21.09.2011 17:32

If you have had enough of seeing your brothers and sisters, your cousins, your aunts and uncles and fathers stepped to and disrespected by the cops, JOIN US. If you don't want to live in a world where people's humanity is routinely violated because of the color of their skin, JOIN US. And if you are shocked to hear that this kind of thing happens in this so-called homeland of freedom and democracy — it does happen, all the damned time — you need to JOIN US too — you can't stand aside and let this injustice be done in your name.

Occupy! Manchester - 2nd October Tory Party Conference

United Kingdom, 21.09.2011 08:37

After the ‘March for the Alternative’ in London on March 26th, thousands of people joined the TUC ‘Birmingham for the Alternative’ march on the Lib Dem conference on Sunday September 18th. There was a wide range of trade union participation, especially from public sector unions who recently announced a new wave of national strikes for November 30th. Student activists were also present, with a banner drop by the National Campaign against Fees and Cuts reminding conference delegates of Nick Clegg’s broken promises of opposing rises in tuition fees.

Plans for a third TUC demonstration, the Manchester ‘March for the Alternative’, are underway for the first day of the Conservative Party conference on October 2nd. Tens of thousands are expected to march past the conference centre and the ‘ring of steel’ around it, protesting against an agenda of cuts and austerity for the benefit of the rich. A coalition of anarchists, socialists, trade union activists, student unions and democracy campaigners, dubbed Occupy! Manchester, are also calling for an occupation of Albert Square, outside Manchester Town Hall, to create an assembly of protest on the doorstep of the Tory’s conference, and a place for real debate and discussion about the alternatives.

Plans for occupations and assemblies in Britain have been inspired by the large and vibrant student protests that took place last winter and by the popular demonstrations elsewhere. In New York, people’s assemblies were held on Wall Street on September 17th, the occupation there is on-going and a ‘March to Brussels’ has so far reached Paris. In London, another national student demonstration has been called for November 9th.

Georgia Death Row Prisoner Troy Davis Denied Clemency In Face of Nationwide Protests

United States, 20.09.2011 19:04

Witnesses recanted, no DNA, no proof, yet execution machine proceeds forward

From Atlanta IMC: The Georgia Board of Pardons has refused to grant Troy Davis clemency, condemning him to die this Wednesday. There is now effectively nothing standing in the way of his execution, prompting anger and frustration from his longtime advocates. Barring action by the president or widespread public disruption, Troy Davis will be killed tomorrow.

A rally has already been called for in Woodruff Park at 6pm this evening to demand a stop to the execution, and many organizations are coordinating last ditch efforts to address the situation.

Troy Davis Denied Clemency; Nazi USA Continues to Promote Death Penalty

Portland, 20.09.2011 18:35

Troy Davis was denied clemency. Nazi USA, led by the twin parties of the death penalty, war and fascism, the Democrat-Republicans, continues to promote the death penalty. We have a black president and black attorney general, supporters of the death penalty, who could easily get a federal injunction on the basis of civil rights violations but have done nothing.

Amnesty International is asking everyone to sign their latest petition to the Georgia District Attorney, who could stop the Sept 21, 2011, 7 p.m. execution of an innocent man, another lynching in the backward USA that is now among a minority of nations that still has the death penalty.

Thousands occupy Wall Street against wealthy banksters

Rochester, 20.09.2011 01:48

On Saturday, the 17th of September, thousands of protesters swarmed into Wall Street with the intention of occupying it indefinately. Although a march on the New York Stock exchange was blocked by police barricades and cops protecting the immediate area, protesters swarmed the surrounding area. A police closure of the streets surrounding the Stock Exchange will be very disruptive if if continues into the workweek. With Wall street getting ever richer and everyone else getting ever poorer, people have had enough.

"All Out for Troy Davis" as Execution Set for September 21st

San Francisco Bay Area, 19.09.2011 07:20

Troy Davis has been on death row in Georgia for twenty years. He is set to executed by the state on Wednesday, September 21st, despite the fact that there was no physical evidence presented against him during his trial and since then seven out of the nine "witnesses" who testified against him have recanted, many claiming that they were pressured by police. On September 16th, supporters rallied in cities across the country. A solidarity rally was held in Oakland in front of the Federal Building. As the courts are no longer an option to establish Troy Davis' innocence, his last hope is the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles which will hold a clemency hearing in Troy's case on Monday, September 19th, in Atlanta. A "Save Troy Davis - Stop the Death Penalty" event is scheduled for Laney College on September 20th.

LA Forum on and Fundraiser for Haiti

LA, 19.09.2011 03:13

On July 31st an overflow audience filled the Southern California Library for the Public Forum on and Fundraiser for Haiti. Guest speakers included actor and activist Danny Glover; Pierre Labossiere, co-founder of Haiti Action Committee; and Robert Roth, board member of Haiti Emergency Relief Fund. Chairing was Margaret Prescod, host of KPFK's Sojourner Truth and Women of Color in the Global Women's Strike. The event raised $3,242 for Haiti. The event both helped get the word out about what's happening on the ground in Haiti and raised funds to support the Haitian grassroots.

In the action part of the event, a call was made for signatures to a letter to Latin American governments asking them to withdraw their troops from Haiti, and for a follow-up meeting which is scheduled for Saturday September 24th, 2pm at the Blazer Learning Center, 1517 West 48th Street, Los Angeles, CA 90062 to broaden the work of the Haiti Working Group/LA.

Portland, 18.09.2011 18:46

I haven't posted on here for a while now. There has been a reason for that. I have been trying to unionize my workplace, Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette which is located in Portland Oregon and the surrounding areas. It will actually be my former workplace as of this morning. My decision to resign has been a long time coming. I had been one of the employees from the beginning to try to get GICW employees to join a union since last fall. That fall I approached another employee about it, and the next day we had an anti-union meeting with two of the higher ups in the company. Obviously you just can't trust some people. You'll read about the higher ups later.

To the workers who produce the revenue for the company I say this: There are some of you here, and you know who you are, that are too good for this place. As for everyone else, you should unite in order to take some of the ridiculous amounts of revenue that GICW makes and use it to support yourselves and your families. You should unionize to support a democratic workplace. Or not. Or do nothing and enjoy continuing to earn your low paychecks while others profit off of your labor. If inaction is your decision then you've earned your poverty with your ignorance and your cowardice.

Pogromartige Stimmung gegen Roma in Tschechien

Germany, 18.09.2011 14:11
