Solidarity needed tomorrow, New Seasons Market Workers' Voice

Portland, 10.03.2012 00:02

"A group of workers, now called New Seasons Market Workers' Voice, have been campaigning for a more democratic workplace for over 3 years now. When management made the decision to fire Ryan they weren't just getting rid of a 9 and half year committed staff member, they were attempting to silence the voices of their workers. New Seasons drew that line, now we are responding."

The 'First Amendment Rights Eradication Act' or the New Anti-Occupy Bill

DC, 08.03.2012 21:08

…the newest attack of vague language is aimed at your 1st Amendment rights of Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Assembly and Freedom to Petition. It is found in the pending legislation of H.R. 347, innocuously titled the “Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011″. As currently worded, it might as well have been called the “Federal We’re Too Important To Be Annoyed By Your Protest Act of 2011″ or (as described by Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI), one of the few Representatives to vote against the bill) the “First Amendment Rights Eradication Act” because it effectively outlaws protests near people who are “authorized” to be protected by the Secret Service. Being that the bill passed on a House vote 388-3 and is currently coming out of committee in the Senate, its progress is something civil libertarians and activists may want to monitor. This is H.R. 347 (proposed 18 U.S.C. § 1752) in its entirety as it is coming out of committee: SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. This Act may be cited as the ‘Federal Restricted Buildings and Grounds Improvement Act of 2011’. SEC. 2. RESTRICTED BUILDING OR GROUNDS. Section 1752 of title 18, United States Code, is amended to read as follows: ‘Sec. 1752. Restricted building or grounds ‘(a) Whoever– ‘(1) knowingly enters or remains in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority to do so; ‘(2) knowingly, and with intent to impede or disrupt the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions, engages in disorderly or disruptive conduct in, or within such proximity to, any restricted building or grounds when, or so that, such conduct, in fact, impedes or disrupts the orderly conduct of Government business or official functions…more

New Filings on Frank Ambrose's Docket

Portland, 07.03.2012 16:56

After a long period of inactivity, 10 sealed documents have recently been filed on Frank Ambrose's docket. On Dec 21, 2 motions from the AUSA, on Dec 22 an order, on Jan 12 an AUSA motion, on Jan 12 an AUSA document, and on Jan 17 an order. Then, on March 2, a sealed motion and 2 sealed documents; and on March 5th a sealed order. Frank Ambrose is an activist turned informant who provided the government with information against Marie Mason and others.

These sudden secret filings on the docket of a confirmed informant are cause for concern, though it is unclear what to make of it. What is disturbing is that this is occurring in the context of continuing prosecutions in the Midwest. The most recent of these was against David Agranoff, who agreed "to cooperate by attempting to provide substantial assistance to the government."

FBI Visits NYC Activist Today

NYC, 07.03.2012 02:09

Earlier today, 3 FBI agents paid a visit to a local NYC activist while he was at school. They claimed to be investigating hate crimes and neo-Nazi activity, stating as cops always do, that they were on his side. They asked how antifascists get information on fascist activity and things of that nature, and also mentioned a neo-Nazi demonstration that was countered by anti-fascists last year in New Jersey.

bybee is hiding from a small group

Portland, 06.03.2012 18:20

bybee the bug judge
Judge j. bybee came to Portland and we were there to meet him.

We, of noble intentions were there, we stood for an hour starting about 0800 and left after court started. Malcolm flew his VFP flag with the stars and stripes and we told our story of the "Bug" Judge to be repeated during the time he is in Portland, March 5-9. You all know of the water boarding, the way he got his name by saying it is ok and legal for the President to order torture but you must not call it torture.

We will be there tomorrow at 1130-1:00 PM, stop by for a bit to join byee for lunch. We did not see him today, he is hiding from us---fits with his personality of cowardice. We will decided each day what time we will take up our watch the next, I will try to get word out to you each day. This person of shame who calls himself j. bybee, we call "The Monster of the Desert." Come join us or just stop to say hello.

Portland, 06.03.2012 16:56

Jenna Peters-Golden of Philly Stands Up and AORTA (Anti-Oppression Resource and Training Alliance) Collective presents a workshop on capacity building for radical organizations.

How do you sustain your vision for change? How do you connect the dots when there is so much to get done? How do you zoom out and look at the big picture? How do you stay strong, keep building power and maintain effective sustainability as an organization? In this popular education style workshop we will break down the elements of transformative organizing — concepts, structures and tools to strengthen your campaigns, craft coalitions and specifically, create meaningful organizations built to thrive. Participants should come with questions, ideas and ready to participate.

Atlanta Organizes Against G8/NATO Summit

United States, 06.03.2012 13:17

This May, two international summits are happening in the same city, at almost the same time.  The G8 and NATO are meeting in Chicago.  There will be many different participants in the meetings, but they all represent the same interests: profit, war, and global exploitation.  And though their opponents come from diverse backgrounds and concerns, they are united by a common vision: the summits in Chicago must be met with massive protest, the kind that even world leaders and CEOs cannot ignore. read more

Do You Trust Your Health to OHSU?

Portland, 06.03.2012 05:55

Portland, OR, 2/27/2012 --- Watch what you say at OHSU or you might get punched. Or tased. Or choked. September 8, 2011, Monica Taylor was denied medical treatment, beaten, tased and arrested at OHSU. Ms. Taylor is currently preparing a lawsuit against OHSU.

On her doctor's referral, Monica Taylor went to OHSU to be seen by a neurologist for her rapidly declining mobility and health concerns. At the time, she was using a cane to walk. She was quickly dismissed by the OHSU neurologist and denied an MRI. Upset, scared and angry, Monica became increasingly agitated, yelled at personnel that she needed an MRI and eventually collapsed in the lobby in tears. OHSU staff asked her to leave the building. Outside the lobby door, she called her doctor to get a second referral. Next thing Ms. Taylor knows, a security guard is standing over her demanding she leaves. Ms. Taylor stated she would leave after her phone call to her doctor. Officer Townsend responded by grabbing her neck and slamming her face into the ground. Officer Townsend proceeded to tase Monica 8 times in the back, leaving permanent scars. The cops were called, and Monica was handcuffed, put in a wheelchair and taken to jail. Ms. Taylor was charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, attempted assault and assault of an officer.

Workfare: Enslave us and we'll shut you down'

United Kingdom, 05.03.2012 12:57

Protests took place outside stores across Britain on 3rd March 2012 as campaigners stepped up their opposition to the ConDem workfare slavery scheme, (started under Labour,) by taking the online campaigns, which have resulted in many firms pulling out, onto the streets .

In Edinburgh two Tescos were 'invaded' and pickets were mounted outside a Poundland and British Heart Foundation store. The Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty delivered a letter to the BHF store insisting “that BHF withdraws completely from the Work Programme and all workfare schemes”

Bristol cops arrested two protestors at a picket of a McDonalds, and a solidarity action was held outside Trinity Road cop-shop later in the day. In Birmingham about 50 campaigners stopped off at Sainsburies and Superdrug to congratulate them on pulling out the scheme, whilst pickets were held at Poundland and McDonalds. In Sheffield campaigners who were chucked out of a Tesco on West Street, continued their tour with visits to stores which included Marks and Spencers, McDonalds and Primark. Nottingham campaigners picketed Wilkinsons before moving on to other stores

In Lewisham, McDonalds, Boots, Greggs, BHS and Primark werre targeted by a group of about 30, whilst Oxford Street saw a few dozen campaigners target outlets including McDonalds, Pizza Hut and Holiday Inn in a game of cat and mouse awith the police. On Friday Ian Duncan-Smith was challenged by protestors as he arrived at a conference in Tottenham. He insisted that "workfare is a brilliant scheme".

Nice edited video of the F-29 day of direct action for Portland, Or.

Portland, 05.03.2012 04:23

I went to the F-29 occupy portland protest/demonstration to help draw attention to the American Legislative Exchange Council, although I have been part of many actions in the past, this was the first one ive ever attended with video camera.

My idea was to document the action for others viewing pleasure, to make available footage of this to further spread awareness of this action and to be available for documenting any police misconduct for evidence that could be used in any resulting court cases. If you came out that day in the rain, wind and cold, YOU ROCK !!!
