Internationale Demo am 21.12. in Hamburg

Germany, 12.12.2013 03:54

San Francisco Bay Area, 10.12.2013 03:55

Thousands gathered in the pre-dawn hours for the Indigenous Peoples Annual Sunrise Gathering at Alcatraz Island sponsored by the International Indian Treaty Council (IITC) on November 28. This was the 44th year that the event was held to commemorate the American Indian occupation of Alcatraz from 1969 to 1971. "As we gather today to celebrate, we do not celebrate the re-write of history that has become Thanksgiving," said Andrea Carmen, Executive Director of the IITC. "We celebrate our survival as indigenous people."

Looking for Answers and Fighting Gentrification in Oakland

San Francisco Bay Area, 10.12.2013 03:55

Everyone on the left recognizes gentrification is happening. Its political, economic and social implications are far-reaching. Neighborhoods in L.A., San Francisco and Oakland look completely different now than even ten years ago. In a gentrifying neighborhood, residents feel the effects with evictions and foreclosure notices. The East Bay Solidarity Network has produced a 79-page pamphlet entitled Evict This! which breaks down the history of displacement in Oakland and the resources available to fight the ongoing gentrification.

TPP Protesters Greet President Obama in Beverly Hills

LA, 04.12.2013 03:41

Imagine NAFTA on steroids and affecting multiple continents (North and Central America, Australia as well as parts of South America and Asia) and Pacific island nations (e.g., Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, and New Zealand). Although this partnership has been negotiated in secret, "leaked text reveals that the TPP [Trans-Pacific Partnership] would empower corporations to directly sue governments in private and non-transparent trade tribunals over laws and policies that corporations allege reduce their profits." (350 Campaigns)

TPP would affect nearly every aspect of Americans' lives. If passed, it will undermine state, local and federal laws, including those governing food safety, environmental protection, internet freedom, worker rights, democratic sovereignty, healthcare and drug prices, and banking and finance regulation.

On November 25th, Barack Obama came to Beverly Hills for a high dollar fundraiser. 250 protesters were there to greet Obama and tell him to flush the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Here's how the day and night went in pictures.
