What is TWAC?
Since 2008, the Trans and/or Women's Action Camp (TWAC) has been a fierce action camp for folks who identify as trans women, female, trans men, two-spirit, transgender, transsexual, genderqueer, and gender-variant. TWAC is an intentional space to learn about social and environmental justice, share campaign information, and gain direct action skills in a conscientious, supportive, empowering and encouraging environment for voices often marginalized. At the end of the camp, we take collective action on issues of importance. TWAC Cascadia will be in the forest in Washington Sept 1-8th.

From the Dine' women defending their native lands against destructive mining, to the eco-feminists defending forests from logging and development; from the immigrant and trans women defending their lives from the prison industrial complex, to the parents and midwifes defending their bodies and babies from the patriarchal medical establishment, women and trans folks have always been powerhouses of political action, and TWAC aims to support this in a safe(r) environment.

Ways you can support TWAC:

Back to School? Don't be a target for the Military!

Portland, 14.08.2014 22:52

Under the No Child Left Behind Act, schools receiving federal funding MUST release students' personal information to military recruiters if they are to continue to receive funding. Students may opt-out of the military database at the beginning of the school year.
"They'll know where you live... They'll have your phone number... They'll come to your door ... if you let them. Military recruiters, by strict authority of the No Child Left Behind Act, must be given the names, addresses and phone numbers of all high school students each year. Want to keep your privacy? You can be removed from the list of names by 'opting-out.'" -- The Full Picture, San Francisco, California

WHY DOES IT MATTER?
The September, 2009 article in MOTHER JONES by David Goodman, entitled, "A Few Good Kids?," deals with the heavy military recruitment of at-risk (low-income and/or minority and/or less academic) youth and the insidious invasion of student privacy under the No Child Left Behind Act and JAMRS (consumer) database maintained by the Pentagon.

Stop NATO Cymru Week of Action / Wythnos o Weithredu Stop NATO

United Kingdom, 10.08.2014 22:57

A week of action against the NATO summit. / Wythos o weithredu yn erbyn Uwchgynhadledd NATO.

This year NATO will have their next summit at Celtic Manor Resort, in Newport, south Wales. In early September 2014, “world leaders” – all directly responsible for untold death, illegal torture flights, and wars fought purely to protect Western business interests and resource supply routes – will gather on the edge of this historic Welsh city. Many people from Newport, Cardiff, Bristol and beyond, will oppose the summit and use a diversity of tactics against it. We, an anti-capitalist, anti-militarist network in South Wales, plan to facilitate mobilisations and provide space for workshops, skill-shares and social events. We are organising without leaders as we do not agree with bosses or bombs.

For timetable, see the full article.

[YouTube] Oregonians for Drone Control

Drones are on the cutting edge of an enormously expanding technological movement. The industry is growing faster than legislation and privacy safeguards. Many people have skin in that game, including hobbyists and the military, all pushing for total freedom for these drones.

But there are concerns, many serious concerns regarding how these drones are currently used and how they my be used in the future. Police apartments nationwide see them as tools for crowd control and possibly worse. It's the wild west out there, and our elected leaders are taking their usual sweet time attending to the problem.

Consider this an open invitation to initiate a process, we're not looking to be the final word on alternative media organizing in the Pacific Northwest, but we want to create a space to explore the possibilities of closer collaboration.
