Studenckie protesty w Paryżu

Poland, 15.03.2006 10:10

Jak dotychczas zajmowane były oprócz Sorbony m.in.: College de France, Instytut Nauki (Jussieu), Wydział Medycyny, Orsay, gimnazja i licea.

Day 1 of Walking with Joan; Resistance in the Siskiyou mountains

Portland, 15.03.2006 09:38

Public opposition to the Biscuit Timber Sales have circled over a year, and a commemoration of the late Joan Norman's civil disobedience and leadership is being celebrated with a three-day walk from the Green Bridge over the Illinois River to Federal agency offices in Grant's Pass. Day one is over, and is recounted below, including an insightful meeting with the head Forest Ranger of this district. An invitation to join with the walkers on the second day is issued, as well as for a confrontation with the stewards of our public lands at the end of the walk.

Dawn broke upon the Green Bridge and revealed several inches of snow the fell during the night, with a mist that obscured the nearby mountains. We had camped there the night before in honor of Joan Norman, who was a dynamic keystone in the popular protests of the Biscuit timber sales last spring. She died last summer in a tragic car wreck, and some of us felt it was important to celebrate the last and greatest stand she took in a long life of principled social and ecological activism. Geese honked and flew past in small groups over the Illinois River before us, while we warmed ourselves in front of a huge radiant fire that had burned since afternoon of the previous day. We were preparing to begin a long walk to Grant's Pass.

Frankreich - Proteste, Besetzungen, Streiks im ganzen Land

Switzerland, 15.03.2006 07:37

State's Comprehensive Energy Bill Ignores Looming Crisis of Climate Change, Nuclear Power Option

Madison, 15.03.2006 00:08

Wisconsin's comprehensive energy efficiency and renewable energy bill (SB-459) received a vote of 94-0 by the State Assembly last Wednesday night. After already having passed the Assembly by a wide margin, the bill now heads to Governor Jim Doyle, who is expected to sign it. The bill is a far cry from being comprehensive. It doesn't address petroleum energy and motorized transportation, it doesn't address nuclear reactor supplied energy, nor energy conservation to any significant degree, and it ignores global warming. Besides that, it sets a goal that only 10% of the state's electricity at the close of 2015 be obtained from renewable energy sources. The state's energy bill is a weak baby step when giant steps were being called for. As a bill that supposedly was intended to set the course for Wisconsin's energy future; the instrument that has passed both houses of the Legislature does little more than preserve the status quo as the looming crisis of significant climate change in Wisconsin draws nearer by each passing week.

Baskische Linke ruft zum Streiktag auf

Germany, 14.03.2006 23:40

Midwest Immigrants and Allies Pour into Chicago Against HR4437

Santa Cruz, CA, 14.03.2006 23:38

On Friday, March 10, 2006, downtown Chicago saw a pro-immigrant march estimated at tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of people, all rousing opposition against the infamous anti-immigrant Sensenbrenner Bill. Protesters carried hand-lettered signs saying "No Human Being is Illegal," "George Washington Was An Immigrant," "We are America," "My Mexican immigrant son died in Iraq," "I'm a dishwasher-not a criminal," and "Don't deport my parents." The protest drew comparisons with scales near the largest protests Chicago has ever seen — including one protest in 1886 where 80,000 immigrants marched down State Street demanding an eight-hour workday. View photos and more on Chicago IMC

Locally, a rally and march against HR4437 is planned in Santa Cruz on Friday, March 17. The rally will start at 5pm at the SC County Building, before leaving at 6pm to march to the Barrio Beach Flats Community Center.

HR 4437 would make it a felony offense to be in the U.S. without proper documentation. This would push undocumented immigrants further underground, and increase the potential for exploitation by employers. This bill would also criminalize nurses, teachers, clergy, social workers, and anyone else who aids, assists, or otherwise has regular contact with undocumented immigrants. Chicago Witnesses Massive Protest for Immigrant Rights

Chicago, 14.03.2006 21:09

On Friday, March 10, 2006, downtown Chicago saw a pro-immigrant march estimated at tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of people, all rousing opposition against the infamous anti-immigrant, pro-enforcement Sensenbrenner Bill.

The peaceful crowd stretched two and half miles, from Union Park on the West Side to their destination in Federal Plaza, where presentations were delivered by Illinois Governor Blagoyevich and Congressman Luis Gutierrez.
