Congress to Vote on School of the Americas this Wednesday

NYC, 18.06.2007 22:09

The School of the Americas (SOA), in 2001 renamed the “Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation,” is a combat training school for Latin American soldiers, located at Fort Benning, Georgia. OVer 60,000 soldiers have graduated from the school, many of which have been implicated in some of the most notorious military dictatorships and human rights abuses in Latin America.

Congress is expected to vote on an amendment to the Foreign Ops Appropriations Bill that would cut funding for the SOA/WHINSEC and review foreign military training in Latin America and its consequences for human rights and civil liberties.

DC, 18.06.2007 04:40

On June 16th, the MinuteKlan's "Flag Day" national mobilization finally came to a disgraceful end. Instead of the 10,000 people they told the Washington Post they were expecting, they had maybe 75, and had to scrub their march from the Capitol after being run off by the Capitol Police. Unconditional Faction Urges Against Organizing Protests for the Party Conventions in 2008

DC, 18.06.2007 04:40

Unconditional Faction is a tenuous coalition of inveterate liberals, authoritarian communists, sanctimonious pacifists, and diehards from lesser-known ideological ghettos such as primitivism and autonomist Marxism. While we can barely stand to be in the same room together, we are brought together by our shared opposition to any discussion of protests at the upcoming Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

Imigration reform or blatant racism and nationalism?

Portland, 18.06.2007 00:38

Twice this past year, the kindest hard workers in my work force have been deported or not allowed back into the united states for trumped up reasoning. Typo on paperwork, or legitimate citizen, it no longer seems to matter, they disappear overnight with no warning. The recent CIA bust of 160 workers in north Portland is nothing new, just more obvious.

What is so overlooked is the ridiculous double standard in place. We can't have immigrants working here, but we can ship jobs to other countries. Where's the logic in that?

Two men from climate action group, Plane Stupid, have caused disruption by supergluing themselves to the passenger entrances to the airport. Supporters are there handing out leaflets to airport customers encouraging them not to fly next time, and a banner carried by helium-filled balloons was also released in the departure lounge bearing the slogan ‘Let’s fry’.
