Staging the Portland Nuke

Portland, 14.08.2007 04:38

Captain Eric H. May, the Internet military intelligence writer, has written his most detailed article to date on the highly suspicious Portland Nuke exercise, Noble Resolve. He names the names of the key players in the operation, and of the military and media figures who have joined the growing outcry about what may turn out to be a false flag version of the White Houses much- predicted terror nuke.

Staging the Portland Nuke (A Comedy of Terrors)

Martial Law and Noble Resolve Noble Resolve 7-2 is a test of emergency management software. Same software was in place and tested during and after Hurricane Katrina. The test is being funded by Department of Homeland Security. PDF links below give information about effective resistance to martial law. The software company, Swan Island Networks, has close ties to NORTHCOM and NSA. Use search term "NORTHCOM" here at Portland Indymedia for extensive information about NORTHCOM and martial law

Noble Resolve may or may not become a "live" drill. The more it is publicized, the less likely we will have a 10 kiloton nuke detonated here. The threat of martial law remains regardless.

Martial Law and Noble Resolve

Lately I have seen many posts about a possible "false flag" (I just call it imperialism at work) attack involving Portland, OR. As an anarchist I have found the suggested response of calling and writing elected officials a waste of time. Don't beg for freedom. Fight for it!

Word has it that Homeland Security is going to be holding a terror drill in Portland in late August called Noble Resolve. This drill was going to be a nuclear strike scenario, but as of late has been changed to a volcano scenario. It sounds like the drill is going to cause national guard units, army, homeland security, and all the other folks we all have nightmares about to enter our town to practice for a martial law scenario.

An Anarchist's Response to Noble Resolve

There has been some talk here and elsewhere regarding Freightliner as a possible site of a live Noble Resolve. After seeing the DayAfterWorkshop Report posted today I decided to take a closer look at is in the area. These are the sites of interest I have found so far:

1. St. Johns Bridge - the most obvious landmark in the DAW Report map.

2. ExxonMobil Refining & Supply Company - just to the northwest of the bridge at 9420 NW St Helens Road Portland, OR 97231. (1)

3. Schnitzer Investment Corp. and Schnitzer Steel Industries - they own the property just south of the bridge at 6529 NW Front Avenue Portland, OR 97210 (2). Interestingly, the CEO of Schnitzer Steel is John D. Carter (3), who is the former Executive Vice President and Director of Bechtel Group, Inc., the former President of Bechtel Enterprises, Inc., and is currently the Director of FLIR Systems, Inc. (4), which is a thermal imaging/defense related company.

Resistance Solidarity: Support THEIR Troops?

DC, 13.08.2007 21:39

…It looked as though just such a vibrant left antiwar movement was flaring into life in 2003. But many of its troops have either veered into 9/11 kookdom, or whining about global warming or nourished an often unspoken resolve to vest all hopes in a Democratic presidency after 2008. The bulk of the antiwar movement has become subservient to the Democratic Party and to the agenda of its prime candidates for the presidency in 2008, with Hillary Clinton in the lead…

Climate Camp has begun

United Kingdom, 13.08.2007 09:38

Late Saturday night, a field close to Heathrow airport site was occupied by about 100 people, the first wave of setting up the 2007 Camp For Climate Action. Twin double decker tripods were quickly erected and despite being just 800 metres from BAA's head office, it took the police two hours to find the site. There have been reports of two arrests and police copying data from mobile phones during searches.

There are now several hundred people on site and the camp taking shape. Police have been searching people and preventing access to the site on and off but in the last few hours this seems to have solidified into a state of siege with police refusing to let water or toilet facilities onto the site.

Meanwhile, local residents celebrated "the place we call home" in the community arts and history project "our place".

Olympia: Report Back From Anti-Police Rally And March

Portland, 13.08.2007 06:08

I wrote an article earlier regarding the arrest of two individuals in Olympia. After writing that article, another anarchist was arrested. This arrest bore many resemblances to the previous ones. Some, not all, have been given the impression that the police are targeting certain people, people whose names have been made public numerous times.

Beyond that, the Olympia Police Department routinely brutalizes and humiliates people on the street. Earlier this year, the OPD moved in force on Camp Quixote, a piece of unused land that had been squatted to immediately provide shelter and a community for those without one. The activities surrounding the ports in the northwest have consistently encountered police repression. The everyday lives of people the State has a grudge against are constantly worsened by the police. The police have been known to kill people. The police have been known to act on government orders and murder specific people. In response to this, an anti-police rally was held on the 4th Ave bridge this afternoon.

Report back on food co-op project for Monmouth-Independence

Portland, 13.08.2007 06:08

Several months ago people from Monmouth-Independence starting meeting to discuss what was important to building a strong, healthy, sustainable community. Food security was and is a huge issue. There is no grocery store in Monmouth, even though there is a University in the town. Before we could get started on a food co-op we had to address food security in our community we started a group to have deeper discussions about what our community needs. The group is called Monmouth-Independence Cafe Commons and here is more on our projects...

Update On Smash ICE Project

Portland, 13.08.2007 06:08

To Everyone Concerned,

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) branch of the National Security Agency continues to aggressively conduct raids against immigrant communities, both in the Pacific Northwest and nationwide. The detentions and deportations that come as a result effect more than just the families that are broken within the process, they are of concern to every person that knows feelings of compassion and empathy.

There is a network of groups forming in the region attempting to address the issue of immigrant rights (basic human rights) rapidly and thoroughly. If you or your organization would like to be contacted to help mobilize a response in the event of a raid, please send an email to with your contact information. The informal group behind this project currently resides in the Puget Sound area. While each of us differ in our politics, we all agree that what ICE is doing, what the government is doing, and what the system is doing must stop immediately.

Washington County Peace Vigil- Week 103

Portland, 13.08.2007 06:08

Washington Co Peace Vigil will be commemorating 2 years of standing for peace on Wed, Aug 15th.

I heard a common theme among the 54 participants at this week's hour of therapy. Many of us feel better just being around like minds where we are free to express ourselves about the horrid situation we are in...without wondering what the other's leanings might be. We know! It is also interesting to note that while most of our paths would have never crossed had it not been for the Iraq War...they have crossed. And, many people have become true friends. Everyone is welcome each Wed at SW 5th and Hall in Beaverton (across from the library) from 6:30-7:30pm.

Blumenauer Protest Grows, Forces Change in Anti-Impeachment Tactics

Portland, 13.08.2007 06:08

More than 40 protesters and a Eugene Vets For Peace "peace bus" made the fourth weekly "impeach the war criminals" vigil inside and outside of Oregon Rep. Earl Blumenauer's office a lively affair. Although police were called out once again, they did not follow through on their previous week's threats to arrest pro-impeachment demonstrators, preferring to sit in an adjoining park.
Several Pissed Off Grannies in rocking chairs and a diverse group of other pissed off people joined Vets for Peace Portland and Eugene for a rousing protest of Oregon Rep. Earl Blumenauer's continuing refusal to treat the rich white rulers of our country the same way he treats poor black and brown people.

After failing to diminish the numbers or the enthusiasm of the previous
vigils by intimidation and harassment with aggressive security personnel and police, the Blumenauer braintrust has apparently decided to change tactics and allow the protesters to exercise their civil rights.

Lone Vet Report

Portland, 13.08.2007 06:08

Let me start with Congressman Blumenauer's words,

"Since the President announced his surge in January, we have spent $60 billion and lost 600 lives. In five years, we have invested half a trillion dollars in the Iraq war - $10 billion every month - and yet the situation is only growing worse.
Our ongoing war in Iraq has also created a refugee crisis that rivals the tragedy in Darfur. With 4 million Iraqis displaced from their homes, I am committed to working with my colleagues to help them find safety, bring our troops home and end this nightmare NOW. You can watch a statement I made on the war and my Iraqi refugee legislation."

I was amazed by these words because January was the month that the dems took control of the House of Representatives and they let all of this happen knowing that we wanted them to stop the madness. We thought that they would start impeachment hearings immediately and stop funding the war. They did nothing except talk with no walk.

ICE Raid In Shelton Results in 25 Detained

Today, Aug. 10th, 25 workers were detained in Shelton by the Mason County Sheriff. They were clearing brush from a field but ended up working in the wrong field. Somehow the police found out and went to where they were working. There, they detained 25 people and took them to Mason County Jail, where they are currently being held. They will be taken to the ICE Detention Facility in Tacoma either tonight or tomorrow.

We are meeting in front of the Tacoma Federal Building (directions below) tomorrow, Aug. 11th, at 2 PM. Those planning on being there should come with supplies (signs, megaphones, ideas, desires, puppets, etc.) and be ready to do what they want. Those wishing to do something (make a speech, distribute liturature, propose a plan, etc.) should come prepared. This just happened today and we are doing the best that we can, given the circumstances.

Report Back From Smash ICE Action

Seattle, 13.08.2007 04:07

Yesterday, around 30 people showed up in front of the Federal Building in Tacoma. While we were there, about a dozen people were down at the detention facility being watched by private riot cops.

Urbana, IL establishes civilian oversight of police

United States, 12.08.2007 10:37

The process has been long and arduous, but in the end the citizens of Urbana got what they wanted: an independent civilian police review board (CPRB), or at least an ordinance authorizing one. After two years of formal deliberation, and between six and eight years of community advocacy, the Urbana City Council last night (Aug. 6, 2007) voted 4-2 in favor of the public right of oversight over local law enforcement. read more

Scahill's no-holds-barred journalism exposes the privatization of warfare and how paid private fighters are contributing to the slaughter in Iraq. The Indypendent also features excellent cultural reviews, an interview with a death row inmate and anti-war activism in neighborhoods targeted for military recruitment. 26 escape from Campsfield

United Kingdom, 11.08.2007 21:38

Around 10:30pm on Saturday, August 4th, a riot broke out in Campsfield House, Oxfordshire, leading to 26 migrants escaping the immigration prison. 15 have since been recaptured, while the rest are still on the run. It followed a yard protest on Tuesday night against the appalling conditions inside the detention centre, which is run by American company GEO, and the discriminatory decisions of Newport immigration court, which is used for bail hearings and appeals involving Campsfield detainees. A hunger strike was started on Wednesday but was put on hold pending a meeting with Home Office representatives on Friday. A further yard protest on Friday night was held as the meeting failed to meet the prisoners' demands. Three solidarity demos were held on Tuesday midday at Campsfield House, Lindholme (Doncaster) and the Communication House (London) [reports: 1 | 2 | 3 ].

Last week, a revolt in a detention centre in Bari, Italy, led to at least 35 migrants escaping. Three weeks ago, 69 Tamil detainees in 5 detention centres, including Campsfield, went on hunger strike against a Home Office decision to deport them back to Sri Lanka [appeal]. Many are still on hunger strike while two Sri Lankan detainees in Harmondswoth, near Heathrow, have been on hunger strike for almost a month (see also Immigration detention: Unworkable).

Stokes Croft: The World's Largest Outdoor Art Gallery

Bristol, 10.08.2007 22:08

PRSC recognised by Bristol City Council summary (Images: Free Art Gallery along the impressive, but derelict, Grade II listed 'Old Carriage Works' building on Stokes Croft. More Images.) Turbot writes: We are in the midst of a campaign to revitalise Stokes Croft through a combination of direct action and liaison with the official bodies that are responsible for Stokes Croft's development. Stokes Croft is a designated conservation area, i.e. "an area of special architectural or historic interest, the character of which it is desirable to preserve or enhance" and is currently undergoing a re-appraisal by the Planning Department. "Its purpose is to describe what makes the area special". This means that we all have an opportunity to say what it is that makes Stokes Croft special, and what we would like to preserve and what we would like to see enhanced. In order to influence this document, you need to write in and let them know your opinions. Background: Stokes Croft has been neglected for a very long time, and has many derelict properties. Because of its generally run-down nature, the rents have been cheap and this has meant that a special culture has developed here, whose common thread is tolerance. We have two Arts studios, Jamaica Street, and Stokes Croft Studios. We have the Here shop and Gallery and Cafe Kino. We have some of the best and cutting edge music venues and clubs in the city, and of course, arguably the most interesting independent cinema in the country, in the Cube. We have a plethora of Street Art/ Graffiti.. (Call it what you will), which is an essential part of the area's culture. There are also homeless hostels and drugs projects ... we have a hotbed, of the Arts, a Cultural Quarter. Full Article People's Republic Of Stokes Croft - FLX1 writes: After nearly a year of positive action by artists living on and around the neglected area of Stokes Croft, Bristol City Council are finally sitting up and listening, and starting to acknowledge that the 'People's Republic Of Stokes Croft' might actually have a point. A draft Conservation Document for Stokes Croft, produced by BCC, is being heralded by representatives of PRSC ... as a small but highly significant victory in their campaign to convert Stokes Croft into: "...the world's largest outdoor art gallery".
