Anti-fascists successfully blockade BNP meeting venue

United Kingdom, 18.10.2007 17:08

Nick Griffin, leader of the BNP, was scheduled to speak at Kimberley Parish Hall on Tuesday 16th Oct. The hall was surrounded by anti-fascists from well before the event was scheduled to take place. The anti-fascists massively outnumbered the police as well as the BNP and their supporters. Anti-fascists were responding to a callout from Nottinghamshire Stop the BNP for a mass demonstration against the planned meeting.

Police numbers were very low though and they did not really have the resources to make arrests. There were 3 arrests though, mainly around the chaos of a particular scuffle or other. All this resulted in was 2 cautions and 1 released uncharged. The evening ended with the anti-fascists agreeing to leave. It was only this gesture that allowed Nick Griffin to leave the building. No more than about 10 people managed to pass through the lines over a period of more than 2 hours.

Confrontation with authorities in Parliament Square

United Kingdom, 18.10.2007 17:08

On 8th October, the day that the British Parliament resumed after its Summer recess, a large group of anti-war protesters marched into Parliament Square. They were joined by people who demanded the basic freedom to be able to protest peacefully without prior police permission or conditions.

In the past demonstrators in London have been arrested, charged and fined or imprisoned simply for reading out a list of names or for carrying an innocuous banner, under the draconian SOCPA legislation brought in by Prime Minister Blair's government and carried on by his successor Brown. Since a raid on protesters' legitimate encampment in the Square by Mayor Livingstone's Greater London Authority (GLA) team on 17th August, a surrounding metal barrier has been erected which severely inhibits the ability to demonstrate there.

November 9th &10th: Smash Tacoma ICE

Seattle, 18.10.2007 16:08

Tacoma has the biggest Homeland Security Detention Center in the North West! They have been tearing apart families, separating children born here from their parents and loved ones that were not. Sixty-four people have died in these detention centers since 2004, and just recently about three hundred people were made ill from the food given in the Tacoma Detention Center. We have had enough of this in our communities! Enough of these secret raids! We want this facility OUT of Tacoma!

Downtown Will NOT have business as usual! We plan on shutting down the downtown area of Tacoma to send a very clear message that will be heard by the powers that be, that we do not want this detention facility any where near us and our communities.

There will be a designated green zone at S. 17th and Pacific on the corner and in the grassy park across from the art museum. In this area only 100% LEGAL forms of protest will be taking place! Bring puppets, musical instruments, signs, banners, creativity and passion. The rest of down town will be open to diverse and creative tactics!

Esa prolongacin a ocasionado diversos problemas.

Stop Playing Their Game: Time To Boycott Voting

DC, 17.10.2007 23:09

After many years of political disappointment, more progressives, liberals and conservatives — and certainly moderates and independents — know in their hearts that voting for Democrats or Republicans is a waste. Just imagine if voter turnout was cut to 25 percent or less! Let the whole world see Americans boycotting a broken and corrupt political system and rejecting what has become a delusional democracy. To keep voting in an unjust political system makes us willing political slaves that the rich and powerful elites exploit.

Indy Report from Inside the Press Tent at Topoff 4

Portland, 17.10.2007 18:38

My first day reporting on Topoff 4: Top Off 4 kicked off in Portland, Guam, and Phoenix on October 15th, 2007. This drill takes place alongside several other drills including both war games and martial law simulations. I assembled my camera gear.Upon hanging up the phone with Jack Blood, (a radio talk show host on I heard the sound of jets overhead. Then I looked at the clock. 15 minutes til 9 AM, the official launch time of the "live" Topoff 4 drill.

At approximately 9:06AM a mock dirty bomb exploded at Portland International Raceway. However, the real area of concern is the Topoff 4 exercise was the east end of the Steel Bridge. P.I. R. was determined to be a better location to practice the response capabilities so the city center doesn't have to come to a halt. The media tent was located about 1,000 feet from the staged incident. You could see about 50 police, all in black, with helmets with faceguards. One was walking a K-9 as he stopped to chat with a friend dressed up in a bio-hazard suit. I saw about 40 or 50 of them. This took place to the backdrop of an entire fleet of ambulances, firetrucks, and Red Cross tents. Dozens of firefighters moved into action taking care of the victims. On the ground there appeared to be several non-moving bodies. In another area, you could see a bunch of bodies in some kind of protect quarantine zone.

I was present to witness the press conference that followed with FEMA. There were multiple agencies present, including the FBI and ATF. |

Interview with local FBI about Hammerfest

Portland, 17.10.2007 17:38

Audio interview from Friday October 5th with local office of FBI about Hammerfest, and about the FBI's double standards.

The Hammerskins, began life in 1987 as the Confederate Hammerskins. The group was founded in Dallas, TX gang specializing in violence against Jewish people and people of color, sexual minorities, as well as activists. The Hammerskin Nation--a masthead for Hammerskin racist skinhead crews--has since gone national, and later international, with their bigoted agenda.

The Hammerskin Nation event in Oregon was planned in conjunction with Volksfront, a Portland-led white supremacist group with links to Kenneth Mieske and Kyle Brewster, two of the killers of Ethiopian immigrant Mulugeta Seraw in a 1988 racially charged crime.

I spoke today with Mike Sweeney, with the Portland office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, about the Hammerskin nation:

Democracy Dies in Dead Of Night in Prince William County

DC, 17.10.2007 17:09

Democracy is dead in PWC. The 13 hour marathon session of the Board of County Supervisors yesterday was dominated by person after person urging the Board to rescind the anti-immigrant resolution. Over 1500 people turned out to demonstrate against the measure. Only about 100 turned out to support it. And yet the Board once again rendered the immigrant community invisible by passing the measure quickly and unanimously.
