Activists Confront Corporate Fatcats in Downtown Dallas

United States, 06.06.2008 13:08

Exxon Enough !

" Won't you help us stand against the monster?"
Jefferson Airplane ...

They came to Dallas, the fat cats with their fat purses and their love of flatulent refineries and chemical processing plants, which along with their noxious clouds of toxicity produce even more lard in the tightly clutched purses. They came in their stretched cars whose voracious appetites provide ever more lucre for the monster off of whom they all feed.

Demands for Action and Popular Response: Free Franki!

The mossos arrested Franki without ordinary notification in order to halt any planned popular response.
In 2005, Francesc Argemí was sentenced, without sufficient proof, to 2 years and 6 months in prison for damaging the spanish flag and assault of authority in 2002. Two weeks ago, the spanish supreme court denied an appeal by his lawyer Montserrat Salvadó. Franki was awaiting official notice of his entrance in prison when he was picked up.
The demonstration began in front of La Modelo and there are other calls in the works.

Democracy beaten black and blue - an Aotearoa anarchist reports from occupied Fiji

Aotearoa, 05.06.2008 00:10

Auckland anarchist Ryan Bodman has been travelling through the Pacific ocean in recent weeks. In recent weeks Ryan has been living under military dictatorship in Fiji. In the following article, Ryan reports on life under dictatorship for ordinary Fijians and presents an analysis of the situation and the prospects for the future. It contains comments from anonymous Fijians who have become some of the many victims of the cruel and corrupt regime now presently ruling Fiji. It should not be forgotten that rape, torture and arbitrary detention continue to be widely practiced tactics used by the Fijian military against dissident journalists, unionists and activists.

Hayden Labels Obama Classic Yankee Imperialist on Cuba

NYC, 04.06.2008 12:09

Former Senator and radical '60s activist Tom Hayden had strong words for Barack Obama at a talk on social movements, May 29. He decried the views in Obama's speech to the Cuban American National Foundation, calling them the views of a "classic Yankee imperialist. Obama's said he supports the war in Colombia, supports the drug war, supports the war on the streets ... He's sounding very hawkish."

Belarus, 04.06.2008 06:37

Statement from the Sit-in at Evergreen: Where We're Going

Seattle, 04.06.2008 02:08

The sit in on the 4th floor of Sem 1 continues. We are still keeping our initial demand that Olympia SDS be reinstated and have recently added the additional demands that Kelly Beckham be offered her job back as well as compensation for time lost, and a change in the process by which student groups lose their RSO (Registered Student Organization) status that is determined by those most affected, the students and members of these organizations. To some, this sit-in may appear to be too focused on SDS, but the intention of the sit-in has always been and continues to be bigger than the status of one student group. Since the beginning of the free speech fight, SDS has always stated that our priority is to increase student power and the sit-in has created a space for new and more people to get involved in fighting for social justice. This is more than just SDS.

Peer 2 Peer Youth Enterprises Launches Hunger Strike

Baltimore, 04.06.2008 01:09

On a sunny afternoon in Downtown Baltimore, the Inner Harbor was bustling with seasonal tourists, happy hour enthusiasts, and Friday's rush hour traffic. Amidst all of this, students, teachers, and education advocates assembled in front of the Harbor's amphitheater to address an issue they feel is essential to the future and survival of Baltimore City youth. On Friday, May 30th, Peer 2 Peer (P2P) Youth Enterprises, a coalition of approximately 20 local youth organizations marched to the Legg Mason building on Pratt and St. Paul Streets to let their voices be heard and to announce a hunger strike to commence that evening.
