Amadeu Casellas: What are we waiting for to free him?

Amadeu Casellas entered prison without having commited any violent crime, that was more than 22 years ago. The legal limit to remain in prison is 20 years, but his stay is being enlarged. Why? Because he has been claiming for prisoners rights in prison. From now almost two months, he has been on hungerstrike without being listened enough. Once again, he started it to vindicate his rights, but the deaf ears of our justice can provoke a very unfair death. We have to quickly act and provoke action to avoid that.

Hamburg Ahoi! Antira- und Klimacamp hart Backbord

Germany, 16.08.2008 20:39

VIDEO - Anti-Gentrification Graffiti Tacoma

Seattle, 16.08.2008 18:08

GENTRIFICATION was spray painted on a billboard on 6th Avenue (a Point Ruston advertisement), this act was not vandalism as some may say nor was it graffiti. Workers at Point Ruston are being exploited to maximize profits for developer. These workers are exposed to contaminated soil, filled with arsenic, cadmium, copper, lead, and zinc leftover from the Asarco smelter. Although spray painting a billboard may seem small, developers had to pay for the propaganda they impose upon everyone and now a beautiful piece of work has covered up their shit.

Rogue Valley, 16.08.2008 13:10

"China- Time to Know the Truth" is a powerful new YouTube video

With all eyes focused on the Olympics in China, Tibetans and supporters worldwide are protesting the Chinese government's use of the Olympics as a political tool to legitimize its illegal occupation of Tibet.

On June 3, 2008 I spoke with Videographer Tom Sepe about Tibetan history since 1959, the Chinese crackdown and the upcoming 2008 Olympics. Tom told us about plans for his documentary: "I can document, try and document some of the stories, try to find out for myself what's going on. I can go there"

and so today as the Olympics are actually taking place "live" Tom Sepe and his colleague Andrea Vecchione have introduced their powerful new video on YouTube.

Take a look at the 7.5 minutes of film and listen to Tom's interview on the 6/3/08 edition of my radio show--Wes Brain, Producer, Brain Labor Report

PCJ Scores Win for Inauguration Day Free Speech, But New Regs Still Suspect

DC, 15.08.2008 19:09

"The January 2005 Inauguration was marred by the exclusion of thousands of people who were denied access because the National Park Service had attempted to turn Pennsylvania Avenue into the private domain of the Bush-Cheney Presidential Inaugural Committee. As a result of our lawsuit, people may have additional opportunities to access the Inaugural Parade, including those who hold an anti-war view. But this is an unfinished struggle and the litigation is still ongoing," said Mara Verheyden-Hilliard, Partnership for Civil Justice

Hunger strike in Campsfield as deportee takes his own life in Iraq

United Kingdom, 14.08.2008 10:39

Some 50 refugees held at Campsfield immigration prison, near Oxford, are on hunger strike in protest at their continued detention. This is the second such protest at Campsfield this year and one of many throughout the UK detention estate.

Meanwhile, an Iraqi-Kurdish refugee has taken his own life after being forcibly returned to Iraqi Kurdistan. Hussein Ali shot himself in his home in Sulaimania on August 10th, two days after he was deported to Erbil via Jordan. An emergency demonstration in support of the hunger strikers, called by the Campaign to Close Campsfield, was held outside the immigration prison on August 12th.

The Indypendent Issue 124: Welcome to Donkeyland!

NYC, 14.08.2008 01:39

“Hope.” “Change we can believe in.” As the Democrats and the Obama campaign trot out slogans meant to turn out millions of voters this November, what forces really power the Democratic Party? John Tarleton, in “Welcome to Donkeyland,” lays it out.

“A more useful way to assess Obama’s politics is to take a closer look at some of the dominant forces in the Democratic Party that he has openly embraced. While it is impossible to convey all the thousands of interlocking relationships that bind the corporate center of the Democratic Party, even a small sampling strongly suggests that it will take a lot more than voting for one man for us to see real change in this country.”
