Abrahadabra: A Collapsed Building In 4 Parts

Seattle, 04.08.2009 20:38

The formula for authority's control mechanism is simple: discredit anarchism by propagating a mythos of violence within the anarchist subculture. Agents of the empire push anarchists towards action, encouraging and aiding them up until the final moment when they are apprehended.

John Towery, who went by the name John Jacobs as well as Agent Orange, was part of that control mechanism. As a member of the Fort Lewis "Force Protection" unit, he infiltrated the Port Militarization Resistance group from September 2007 through July 21, 2009.

Who Killed Brad Will?: Mexican Authorities Commission Canadians To Back Them Up

DC, 04.08.2009 17:10

A new Canadian report endorses the questionable Mexican "investigation" in the shooting death of Indymedia journalist Brad Will, in Oaxaca. The report, commissioned by Mexico's Attorney General's Office, appears intended to combat international criticism, from local and international human rights groups. The report is unable to refute multiple eyewitnesses, other journalists on the scene, and autopsy evidence. http://cpj.org/blog/2009/08/in-brad-will-killing-report-fuels-questions-contro.php

Minnesotans detained in and deported from Israel return home and speak out

United States, 04.08.2009 03:07

Israeli security forces refused entry to three U.S. solidarity activists for attempting to participate in a human rights delegation. They were treated as criminals, while their only goal was to learn about the reality of life for the Palestinian people. Sarah Martin, member of Women Against Military Madness, and Katrina Plotz, of the Anti-War Committee, refused voluntary deportation, and the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv informed us that they were forcibly deported Sunday evening. The third traveler, Karen Sullivan also of the Anti-War Committee, was already deported and returned home to Minneapolis on Sunday.

Sarah and Katrina are expected to return home on a flight arriving at 12:37pm. A press conference with them, their families and supporters, will happen at 1pm in the baggage claim area of the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport (Lindbergh Terminal).

Garment Workers Revolt: Bangladesh on Fire

Boston, 04.08.2009 02:09

The garment industry in Bangladesh employs more than 2 million workers, 80-90% of whom are women. Bringing the impoverished nation $11 billion annually, the garment industry is Bangladesh’s largest income earner. If you go into your closet and start reading tags, you’ll probably find more than a few items made in Bangladesh. It should surprise no one that the destitute women who make our cheap clothes labor in incredibly unsafe buildings for as many as eighty hours a week, suffer intolerable working conditions, including verbal, physical, and sexual abuse, while earning little to nothing.

Open Letter to Amnesty International: Support the Palestinian Call for Boycott of Israel!

San Francisco Bay Area, 03.08.2009 04:22

From PACBI Open Letter to Amnesty International : In May, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) called on singer/songwriter Leonard Cohen to heed the Palestinian call for a cultural boycott of Israel and avoid complicity with Israel's violations of international law by cancelling his planned September concert in Israel, particularly in view of Israel's war crimes in Gaza earlier this year. Sadly, Amnesty International USA has agreed to cooperate with Cohen in dealing with Israel on the basis of business as usual.

Radical Faeries lay Burnside and Hay to rest: Welcome home one last time

Portland, 02.08.2009 20:39

At 8 pm PST at the Radical Faerie Sanctuary in Southern Oregon. Radical Faeries at their annual summer gathering each were given a handful of crematorial remains (of John Burnside and Harry Hay) which in unison were released to the land, thus bringing these seminal figures of gay rights home one last time.

John Burnside passed away this last fall, surviving Harry by a number of years. The life partners were among the original founders of the Radical faeries, and Harry Hay was one of the initial agitators for queer rights, as founder of the Mattachine Society, the first gay rights advocacy organization since the fall of the German Vidmar republic, agitating in a world before Stonewall. Both life-long critics of Capitalism, and the commercialization of the gay culture and the commodification of gay men, as well as Advocates of "subject-subject" consciousness.

They will be missed, but will never be silent.
They are survived by innumberable free faggots all around the world.

Ungar Furs and Portland Police serve activists with restraining orders!

Portland, 01.08.2009 21:39

Two activists have been (il)legally restrained from continuing to attend the demonstrations outside of Ungar Fur's (SW 12th and Yamhill).

This is a cheap and low blow to the first amendment rights of the activists' free speech. The fur shop and Portland police bureau are desperately trying to stifle the dedication and consistency of this campaign against Portland's last fur shop.

A number of lawyers gladly took this case for free and we are happy to announce that the appeals to the restraining order are getting filed today.

Pride in Nottingham

United Kingdom, 01.08.2009 13:39

Nottingham's 7th Gay Pride took place on Saturday 25th July. In the past, the event has been restricted to the Arboretum, but this year, for the first time, there was a march from the Forest Recreation Ground. The route down Mansfield Road is one familiar to local activists, but rarely are the marches so colourful and enjoyable. The marchers, many of them dressed up for the occasion in an array of costumes and outfits, were accompanied by both a samba band and a marching band. From Mansfield Road, they turned right onto Shakespeare Street and then right again, up North Sherwood Street before entering the Arboretum where they joined the component of the event.

Highgate Farm Protest Camp

United Kingdom, 01.08.2009 02:39

On Monday 27th July, activists occupied land near the entrance of Highgate Rabbit Farm, in Lincolnshire, in protest against their breeding of rabbits and ferrets for the vivisection industry. Highgate Farm supply several university and commercial laboratories, including Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). In conjunction with Stop Huntingdon Animal Cruelty (SHAC) the campers are holding a peaceful protest, calling on the closure of the farm, and for the farmer to hand the animals over to a suitable organisation for rehoming.

The protest has recieved positive coverage on the front page of the local newspaper and support from locals who put up Highgate Farm posters in local villages for the upcoming national demonstration. This caused a Stafford police officer to express concerns that it may be the beginning of "the new Newchurch", begging campers not to visit the now guarded farm during the night. In reponse, Ian Caswell from South Yorkshire FIT team made an appearance, the council threatened an eviction (that was subsequently retracted), and a police helicopter hovered over the camp.

During Wednesday night, a shot rabbit with a rope tied around their neck was then thrown at the camp from the direction of the farm, which is now under investigation by CID. Protesters have therefore called for more people to come and support the camp after extending it past Friday.

Timeline: Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday
